Celebrate National Public Gardens Day in ABQ

The ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden will celebrate National Public Gardens Day Friday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The celebration invites nature lovers to go out to the gardens and join the fun. There will be demonstrations, giveaways and special talks about gardening. The celebration is a perfect opportunity to kick off your summertime planting.

Prices are included with admission to the BioPark.

The ABQ BioPark is located at 2601 Central Ave. NW.

'Run for the Zoo' is this Sunday, May 5

The ABQ BioPark will host 'Run for the Zoo' on Sunday, May 5 from 7-10 a.m.

New Mexicans from allover are welcomed to run or walk, as this is the 28th annual Run for the Zoo is this weekend. The day will be filled with running, fitness, and fun. Run for the Zoo is the largest running event in New Mexico. The run is always every first Sunday in May and has events for all ages and fitness levels.

This event is presented by Presbyterian & the New Mexico BioPark Society, which fund raises for ABQ BioPark Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden & Tingley Beach.

Pre-registration is required and fees vary.

Celebrate Mother's Day at the Zoo

The annual Mother's Day celebration at the ABQ BioPark Zoo continues on Sunday, May 12th. At 2 p.m. a concert by the New Mexico Philharmonic will honor mothers of all ages and backgrounds--including the Zoo's own animal moms.

Classic Chevy Car Show at the ABQ Balloon Museum April 20

The Albuquerque Balloon Museum will host the Classic Chevy Club Car Show this Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature classic Chevy cars, trucks, and even motorcycles for families to view. Live music by Black Pearl will be there for entertainment, as well as food, a silent auction, Lighter Than Air Exhibits, and face painting for the kids. Owners who would still like to enter a vehicle will need to pay the $30 registration fee either on line or at the event.

Admission for the show is included in the regular museum admission.

Celebrate Albuquerque's 307th Birthday this weekend

It's Albuquerque's 307th Birthday! Historic Old Town will host a celebration welcoming locals to enjoy the festivities on Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The celebration will include many children's activities such as face painting, rock wall climbing, panning for gold and lots more. The best part of the event is for families to be able to learn about Albuquerque's history and background, while enjoying a day out with the family. Albuquerque has a rich history that some may not know much about, but this birthday party will help those discover how their city became what it is today by exploring different 'eras' that have effected the Albuquerque area.

Historic Old Town is located just south of Rio Grande and I-40.

So you want to be a bee keeper?

Learn how to keep bees and enjoy honey fresh from your back yard with Albuquerque Open Space.  

The backyard beekeeping classes will begin this Sunday, Apr. 21, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center.

This week’s class will focus on basic bee biology and hive architecture. Students will also learn what exactly a beekeeper does and what to expect. By the end of the workshops students will have a better idea of how much time and equipment bee keeping requires.

Other workshop topics and dates are as follows:

·       May 12: Spring Hive Maintenance

·       June 30Summer Hive Maintenance

·       Sep. 8:  Fall Hive Maintenance

·       Oct. 6: Making Wax Products

Half-price admission for the ABQ BioPark this weekend

The ABQ BioPark offers half-price weekend this Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21.

As the Zoo and Botanic Gardens each have festivities going on for families to enjoy, the BioPark opens at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. both days. Admission of all single tickets will be half-price both days and children 3 years of age and younger are free. BioPark combo tickets and online tickets remain regularly priced.

Prices include:

  • $4.50 per adult ticket
  • $2.25 per senior (65+)
  • $2 per child
  • Children age 3 and younger are free

 

The park will celebrate Earth Day and the Children’s Seed Festival on Saturday, and the Spring Pastels Show at the Botanic Garden on Sunday.
