Free flu shots offered throughout ABQ | Health
Flu season is around the corner and if you’ve been putting off getting your yearly flu vaccine Presbyterian Medical Group is offering you a little incentive, free flu shots.
Presbyterian will provide over 1,200 free flu shots for the public at six community centers located throughout Albuquerque on select days starting Tuesday, Oct. 19 until Nov. 3 or until the vaccine is gone. The shots will be administered from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the clinics listed below.
Certain groups are more at risk for serious illness from the seasonal flu and should get a flu shot ever year, these groups include:
- People 65 years of age or older
- Residents of nursing homes and similar facilities
- Adults and children who have chronic heart or lung diseases, diabetes, kidney disease or serve forms of anemia
- Healthcare workers in contact with people in high-risk groups
- Caregivers or people who live with someone in a high-risk group
Children ages 17 and under will not be able to receive flu shots through these clinics and are recommended to receive the vaccine from their regular pediatrician.
Because the virus used to produce the seasonal flu vaccine is grown in eggs, those with allergies to eggs should not receive the flu shot.
The H1N1 vaccine is included in these free shots.
