'Run for the Zoo' is this Sunday, May 5

The ABQ BioPark will host 'Run for the Zoo' on Sunday, May 5 from 7-10 a.m.

New Mexicans from allover are welcomed to run or walk, as this is the 28th annual Run for the Zoo is this weekend. The day will be filled with running, fitness, and fun. Run for the Zoo is the largest running event in New Mexico. The run is always every first Sunday in May and has events for all ages and fitness levels.

This event is presented by Presbyterian & the New Mexico BioPark Society, which fund raises for ABQ BioPark Zoo, Aquarium, Botanic Garden & Tingley Beach.

Pre-registration is required and fees vary.

The ABQ BioPark Zoo is located at 903 Tenth SW.

Classic Chevy Car Show at the ABQ Balloon Museum April 20

The Albuquerque Balloon Museum will host the Classic Chevy Club Car Show this Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will feature classic Chevy cars, trucks, and even motorcycles for families to view. Live music by Black Pearl will be there for entertainment, as well as food, a silent auction, Lighter Than Air Exhibits, and face painting for the kids. Owners who would still like to enter a vehicle will need to pay the $30 registration fee either on line or at the event.

Admission for the show is included in the regular museum admission.

So you want to be a bee keeper?

Learn how to keep bees and enjoy honey fresh from your back yard with Albuquerque Open Space.  

The backyard beekeeping classes will begin this Sunday, Apr. 21, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center.

This week’s class will focus on basic bee biology and hive architecture. Students will also learn what exactly a beekeeper does and what to expect. By the end of the workshops students will have a better idea of how much time and equipment bee keeping requires.

Other workshop topics and dates are as follows:

·       June 30Summer Hive Maintenance

·       Sep. 8:  Fall Hive Maintenance

·       Oct. 6: Making Wax Products

UNM Men's Basketball team plays tonight March 21

UNM Men's Basketball team plays tonight March 21

The game airs on TNT as tip off is at 7:50 p.m. Mountain time.

Lobo fans are ready to watch the Men's Basketball team take on Harvard University tonight March 21. As the University of New Mexico Lobos are ranked number 3, Harvard Crimson is ranked number 14. If the Lobos win they will play again this Saturday, March 23.

Free Fishing Derby at Tingley Beach March 16

Catch a good time at the Tingley Beach Free Fishing Derby, Saturday, March 16 from 7:15 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As the ponds will be stocked with over 5,000 rainbow trout, odds are in your favor. Take to whole family out for a great fishing day. Fishing licenses are required for ages 12 and up. Some trout will be tagged for prizes to be claimed, and the first 50 children (age 8 and younger) will receive a Pirates of the Carribean sleeping bag.

Admission is free.

Guided bosque walks every first Sunday of each month

Nature lovers are invited to join the Open Space Visitor Center on a guided tour near the bosque, every first Sunday of each month from 9-10a.m.

As most fast pace cities are passing time, the Open Space Visitor Center would like to introduce you to a whole new world within the city. The riverside is peaceful and calm, for anyone who would enjoy some time away from the busy freeways and packed stores.

The guided walks are Free, however registration is required one month in advance. There will be a guided walk this Sunday, March 3, the next will be April 7.

The Open Space Visitor Center is located at Bosque Meadows Rd NW.

Free Fly Fishing lessons for ABQ youth

Free Fly Fishing lessons for kids at Tingley Beach this Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The free fly fishing event is available for the youth, age 15 and under, with no pre-registration required. Participants will take lessons from Tingley Beach volunteers and New Mexico Trout experts. The hands-on activities will include fly-making and casting, knot-tying, and more.

The free lesson is a come and go as you please event, and supplies will be provided.
